Grandfathering in the NFIP & Validating an Elevation Certificate
Course Number: 71719—Intermediate P&C—Instructor—Shawn Tinsley
The course that is being offered is to assist the insurance agent in understanding the rules for the National Flood Insurance Program that deal with Grandfathering and Elevation Certificates. Recently the National Flood Insurance Program has clarified the rules of grandfathering of an insured’s property. Grandfathering assists the insured in using the flood zone that was originally purchased or that was in effect at the time the building was built. Since the insurance agent may be receiving phone calls from the lenders this is also discussed on how to handle. The Elevation Certificate is a requirement for rating in the Special Flood Hazard Areas for Post-FIRM structures. The second portion of the course will go over the current elevation certificate, prior forms that are still usable, photo requirement and how to validate the elevation figures. After the course the insurance agent will have a better understanding of the process for Grandfathering and how to properly use the Elevation Certificate.
